DICOM tag viewer
See every tag in a .dcm file in one searchable table: the name, the data type, the value, nested sequences and private tags. It runs in your browser, so the file stays on your device.
Drop a .dcm file here, or
Files stay on this device. Tags can contain patient details; they are shown only on your screen.

How to read the table
| Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Tag | Group and element number in hexadecimal, such as (0010,0010). Odd group numbers are private tags added by a manufacturer. |
| Name | The attribute name from the DICOM data dictionary. Hover for the keyword, the form programmers use, such as PatientName. “Private” means the tag is vendor-specific and has no standard name. |
| VR | Value representation: the data type. See the list below. |
| VM | Value multiplicity: how many values the attribute may hold. 1 is one value, 1-n is one or more, which a file separates with backslashes. |
| Value | The decoded value. Long text is shortened, and binary data (including pixel data) shows only its size. |
Some files are written without VRs (“implicit VR”). In that case the table takes the VR and VM from the standard dictionary. Private tags have no VR in an implicit file, so their values are shown as text when they are printable and as a size otherwise.
Common value representations
| PN | Person name, written Family^Given^Middle^Prefix^Suffix |
|---|---|
| LO, SH, ST, LT, UT | Long string, short string, short text, long text, unlimited text |
| CS | Code string: capitals, digits, space and underscore, such as MONOCHROME2 |
| DA, TM, DT | Date YYYYMMDD, time HHMMSS.FFFFFF, date and time together |
| UI | Unique identifier, numbers separated by dots |
| DS, IS | Decimal string and integer string: numbers stored as text |
| US, UL, SS, SL, FL, FD | Binary numbers: unsigned and signed 16-bit and 32-bit integers, 32-bit and 64-bit floating point |
| SQ | Sequence of items. Each item is a small data set of its own, shown indented under an “Item” row |
| OB, OW, UN | Binary data: bytes, 16-bit words, unknown. Pixel data is OB or OW |

- (0010,0010) Patient's Name, (0010,0020) Patient ID, (0010,0030) Patient's Birth Date and dates throughout the file: this is patient data. To remove it before sharing, use the anonymizer, and read its limits.
Export
CSV opens in any spreadsheet, JSON is for scripts. Both contain exactly the rows currently shown, after your filter, including the values, so the exported file is as sensitive as the DICOM file. Nothing is sent anywhere; the file is created in your browser.
